A stealth game somewhat reminiscent of the Metal Gear series, albeit with some puzzle elements as well. The basic gist is that you're an amnesiac test subject in some twisted laboratory and you must escape by sneaking down halls and avoiding guards. Moving slowly allows you to hear guards in adjacent rooms and hallways (anywhere within the dark halo that surrounds your character), while areas within your line of sight also light up, allowing you to see guards (but also allowing them to see you). If you're spotted, you must either use one of your powers (detailed below), or simply run away until you've escaped their line of sight - they'll return to their patrol routes a short time after you lose them. In each stage, you'll have to find one or more switches or items and then make your way to the exit.

The puzzle element comes in the form of various psychic power icons that are found throughout the stages. These allow you to active powers such as teleporting to a random location on the map, stunning guards in your line of sight, slowing all the guards on the board temporarily, or running faster. Later enemies also introduce tougher foes such as Agents (much faster and more tenacious guards), Police (who fire nets, which stun you for several seconds if they hit) and even enemy psychics (let's just say it's pretty much an instant game over if they spot you unless you get very lucky). It all makes for some very intense gameplay in the later stages. In fact, stealth becomes rather secondary later on - you'll have to constantly be on the run to evade capture and make use of nearly every powerup you run across in order to make it to the exit.

The presentation of the game is also quite nice - the graphics are surprisingly detailed for tiny sprites, and the chiptune music effectively conveys the tension of the game. Sound effects are relatively few, but also well crafted - I especially lke the piercing scream for the Gorgon power.

Overall, Escapee Go is a solid DSiWare action-puzzle game, and with three difficulty settings, a high score table for each and an endless mode wherein players try to survive for as long as possible without getting caught, it has some considerable replay value as well. Not bad at all for something that only costs $2.
