ON BEGINNING SENTENCES WITH THE WORD 'DANGEROUSLY'

Firstly, it is important to know that sometimes, beginning a sentence with the word 'dangerously' may not work. For example, if I were to write, 'Dangerously, Sally drank a glass of water,' you would probably not be particularly impressed. Conversely, if I wrote, 'Dangerously, Sally stuck her head in the mouth of a lion,' you would feel suspense wrap around your mind! Do you feel it? I thought as much!

Now, then: Take any ordinary sentence, such as, 'Dave leaned over to tie his shoes,' and add another sentence preceding it, one which gives the sense of impending doom, such as 'A large man wielding a bastard sword stood behind Dave, ready to strike.' Now alter the first sentence so that it begins with the word 'dangerously,' thusly: 'A large man wielding a bastard sword stood behind Dave, ready to strike. Dangerously, Dave leaned over to his shoes.'

DO YOU FEEL THE SUSPENSE?

I thought as much!
