A great overhead racer that doesn't stand out when you initially start the game, there are actually quite a large number of courses for you to select from each ranging from standard circuits to circuits filled with traps and jumps. But the real kicker is that between matches you can spend prize money on your car and upgrade parts, install items or buy weapons to create the ultimate racing machine. These can range from the typical parts like engines, tires and turbo-booster upgrades to the ability to install and use missiles, oil slicks, jumping springs and even the ability to teleport!
Another fine feature of this game is that you can race with up to five other buddies, and while the computer's AI is actually pretty good and is programmed to compete with what parts you have bought in according to their own allowance at the time, it's definitely a great party game but still holds it's own as a single player.
Two weird mechanics that will take new players by surprise is the fact that if you fall too far behind on the course you'll be 'teleported' to the center of the track and have a bit of gas deducted (which becomes invaluable on later stages, if you run out - you're out of the race!) and oddly enough, there is no collisions between the cars in the game, which causes you to just drive over each other... so you won't be able to bump people off the tracks to gain an edge in the race but this also works in your favor.
MAKE SURE YOU SELECT or BUY THE HANDLING TYPE-B IN THE SHOP - This gives you classic overhead racer controls which uses left/right to turn, otherwise using TYPE-A will cause you to gradually turn in the direction you're holding.
I've seen this game get alot of very bad reviews (likely because nobody could understand the TYPE-A Handling) and hoping anybody reading this will give the game a try, it's more than worth the 600 WiiPoints price tag and is easily one of my favorite classic racing games to date.
